  • No border crossing toilet seats!

    by ClaireMSmith, 6 months ago
It’s incredible that you can have a THR surgery in Essex but when you are discharged home to Suffolk no raised toilet seat may cross the border. I cannot imagine what would possibly happen. People think this is a joke but it’s reality! Maybe toilet seat passports need to be introduced.

  • Mental Health Support

by Richard Conway, 7 months ago

I appreciate the NHS and related services are under strain, and I cannot fault their friendliness, patience and professionalism, but I would like to mention my experiences trying to seek diagnosis to discover myself or any mental health related support has been very poor.

There's faults from point of contact and even when you think you might be getting somewhere, you're released from care swiftly and there is no follow-up. You have to keep asking for the support to get anywhere, but end up revisiting the same circle of issues. A good example of this is CBT - though it... Continue reading

by Tracey Allan, 8 months ago

Are you or someone close to you living with a terminal illness?

There are just 3 weeks left to take part in a Regional wide survey to share your experience - and shape a better end of life for all.

On behalf of those responsible for shaping palliative and end of life care, NHS East of England and Marie Curie are conducting a survey to understand the experiences of people in the East of England.

    Whether you

    • are living with a terminal illness
    • supporting a friend or family member with a terminal illness
    • have been bereaved in the last two... Continue reading

Inequality in health and care for those with ME/cfs

This is being discussed by Government as the last Government promised the community of millions that things will change and better care is on the way through the interim delivery plan.

There has been no forward thinking, planning, biomedical research or data collected in the last 70 years and ME has not only stagnated but the treatment of our young people has detreated. I have been to many patient involvement participation groups with SNEE but nothing has changed.

I am doing an online course about personalised care (on the FutureLearn platform). Week 3 speaks about social prescribing. This is an exciting development in healthcare. I wish to draw attention to the important role of Community Transport Operators in improving access to health and fitness, even social activities especially for older and disable people.
  • Patient Transport

Article in today's EADT about NEPT in the context of the planned new Orthopaedic centre in Colchester. Reminder that Community Transport operators in Suffolk already take patients to Colchester for medical appointments.
  • New residents unable to register with the local doctors on Mersea Island

    by Nikkiwilliams, 9 months ago
Living in West Mersea. Our One doctors surgery are no longer able to take on new patients from the ever increasing new residents . They are having to travel into Colchester to see a doctor .

Surely when new houses are built there should be plans in place to increase the infrastructure to accommodate all residents needs , schooling and medical facilities should be top priority.

  • Doctor’s Surgery

    by Robbo, 9 months ago
I could not agree more with the observation regarding the closure of the practice to new patients albeit a temporary closure. I have never understood why developers are given planning approval when the surgery is already under so much pressure. Any further applications must include the provision of a new surgery building to be built prior to the application to develop more houses or bungalows is underway. This could and should have been written into previous development contracts.
  • Dealing with getting older

by Richard Hodge, about 1 year ago

Old age for me appeared to occur out of the blue, I like many joked about getting old but did not appear to be affected.

A minor skin infection involved several weeks of visiting the nurses at the G P surgery which has not completely gone, The nurses were very kind and helpful at a time the were very busy.

For the first time I realised how much I depended on and needed the NHS on a regular basis to deal with minor problems which affect my ability to continue to live a full life.

Planning for the future is... Continue reading

  • Climate and nature emergency

by exuberance , about 1 year ago
I would like to see more evidence that all parts of the NHS and allied partners are taking the climate and nature emregncy seriously. The government aren't. I realise there are things going on behind the scenes, but it is not happeneing fast enough. There is a lot of energy and plastic waste for example. Tablets and medicines produce a lot of unnecessary waste.

Better links with Public health to reduce obesity, poor diets, lack of supprt for breastfeeding is also a priority for me. It would save the NHS money to invest in these areas.
