Air Pollution

Consultation has concluded

The NHS is committed to tackling air pollution to improve the local environment for our communities and we want to hear from our residents about their thoughts, issues and concerns regarding air quality. Did you know?

  • If the UK hits its climate change target, we will annually save 5,700 lives nationally every year from reducing air pollution.
  • Tackling air pollution will reduce the number of diseases associated with it, such as heart disease.
  • Improvements to air quality are also an important co-benefit of interventions targeting other health outcomes, such as active travel (walking and cycling) and increased physical activity.
  • Working together, we can help prevent future illnesses rather than just treat them. Making small changes can make a big difference - just small positive changes in activity (such as walking to replace short car journeys) would reduce pollution. Even a (1µg/m3 reduction in PM2.5 concentrations) could prevent 50,000 new cases of coronary heart disease this year and 9,000 new cases of asthma by 2035.

We would like to hear from our communities by asking you to contribute to our forum below and answer 2 short questions on air quality.

Ipswich Borough Council are also running a more in-depth survey relating to domestic burning. If you are interested in completing this survey as well, it can be found at https://www.ipswich.gov.uk/content/domestic-burning-ipswich

Although both surveys are being run by Suffolk councils, the Suffolk & North East Essex ICB is keen to hear from anyone living in Suffolk and north east Essex, so please take part in the discussion forum below regardless of which part of our area you live or work in.
