  • Lack of dentists

by Stefania, about 1 year ago
Hi there I have been a NHS dental patient for years (paying patient) and over a year ago my dental practice was sold and the new company decided to keep only some of the Old patients with the nhs. Unfortunately I was one of those humans left with the impossible task to find another nhs dentist or go private.

I have been looking across Suffolk for well over a year now but all I get told is “you’ll have to go private”.

I find it incredibly unfair that for someone who has been paying taxes for a very long time... Continue reading

  • Lots Of Support In Suffolk For Those Experiencing Isolation

by Matt Gunns, over 1 year ago

In my role as Community Engagement Officer it has been great to experience in the last year so many great organisations supporting those in isolation or maybe experiencing loneliness. There is obviously more that can be done but great to see the Rural Coffee Caravan in rural areas, Meet Up Mondays and also Communities Together East Anglia in Urban areas helping those communities.

Moreover, there are some lovely dementia friendly groups such as those by some of Suffolk Libraries and other community groups. I think it is important to highlight some positives as dementia and isolation are two things that... Continue reading

  • Dental care and GP services

by Pauline, over 1 year ago
This last week we have been advised that Rendlesham have tried and failed to replace their NHS dentist. There is no guarantee of any care either private or NHS. According to the NHS website there is no recorded NHS dental provision anywhere in Suffolk. What is SNEE and NHS England doing to resolve this dreadful state of affairs?

On a more positive note I am a patient at Leiston surgery which is absolutely brilliant. Visibly tired GPs confine to provide excellent care and the entire team are in my experience absolutely superb.

  • Falls survey

by David Green, over 1 year ago
I have just completed the falls survey sent to me via e mail. I feel that an opportunity has been missed in this survey to raise awareness of the falls risk caused by or enhanced by the medication being taken by many fallers. I am a retired pharmacist and was part of the original working group for NICE and the guidance for falls prevention. We also developed tools for risk assessment within Colchester to evaluate the risk that prescribed and OTC medication may have. This work requires time and sadly, with less pharmacist time available, is still not carried out... Continue reading
  • New covid test changes

by Jeanette Caiger, over 1 year ago
This past week has been a bit frustrating... classified as a person at high risk of covid ,tests are from November 6th going to be available at certain pharmacy's that sign up....on contacting my pharmacy and 2 others in the local area know of no such action. NHS and government website notified me about changes .on this weejs update it sats as pharmacy's have not fully signed for this they will in exceptional cases still supply for a while....

This week I completed a four week online study course about the NHS. Designed by the King's Fund, it was a good way to invest about 8 hours of my time. I leaned a great deal about the history, organisation and funding of the NHS and finished with some thoughts on the future for the service. It was a picture of enormous complexity, ever changing demand, the role of advances in technology and medicine and other big issues. It was also exciting to give my own view on lots of the issues raised and to read the views of other... Continue reading

  • learning disabilities

My duaghter had her annual learning disability assesssment.

Nice nurse, I have spoken over the last couple of years about constipation. the nurse had spoken to the practice paramedic who siad " she can't cope with the treatment" - he has never met her.

GP doesn't care and says it normal to only poo twice per week and produce something an elephant would be proud of.

She doesn't understand pain and can't tell me, if she is in pain but I know she is.

If he ignores me next week, it will be yet another formal complaint.

  • The younger doctors are good

by Norman Fisher, over 1 year ago
My GP practice has improved over the last few months since the practice has new and younger doctors who are willing to listen to the patient and have time to examine you . The new doctors are more cheerful and communicate well and give good advice( not like the older doctor who did not listen and had no time for the patient and just wanted to get rid of you from the surgery even on the phone he had no time to listen.) My new and younger doctors are fantastic I don't mind asking a question about my health and... Continue reading

2 OTAGO classes this week for strength and balance in later life. Been doing Otago for three years now, partly explains how I keep going, despite mobility disability. Also attended a zoom seminar on Gene Therapy. Amazing what researchers are doing for the rare disease community.
