The current Suffolk (excluding Waveney) Community Service concludes at the end of September 2027.

The future community service will not promise to solve all problems, or cure all illnesses, but will be a step towards shaping the future to help people stay well for longer.

The current provision is worth approximately £100m per year and is finishing its 10-year period.

There are several important national changes that will have an impact on this over the next 2 years, including:

What is in our current community services?

Community Services are a broad range of healthcare services delivered outside of hospitals, supporting people across all life stages—from newborns to those at the end of life. These services help individuals stay independent and healthy at home, manage long-term conditions, and access specialist care. They are often delivered by multidisciplinary teams and include both planned and urgent care, rehabilitation, palliative care, and support for complex needs. Reflections on current contract arrangements:

• Historic contract with multiple contract variations in place
• Not reflective of changes in healthcare delivery
• Funding is currently from multiple sources
• Unclear naming conventions and terminology

We need to consider how we get feedback and input from people of all ages across Suffolk. We especially need to ensure we include children, teens, parents, guardians, carers and wider family networks, and those who might suffer the highest impact of health inequalities.

As community services cover such a large number of organisations, teams and different clinical pathways, we will also be able to use health data and analysis to help us know if services are right for local people.
